THE MAYAN MAGIC IN GUATEMALA
The Mayan calendar comes to an end in December 2012. But you’ll discover that the culture and the beliefs of these ancient native peoples are still brimming with life during this multifaceted incentive trip with a professional Mayan specialist.
After a refreshing night in a 17th-century monastery, you’ll get to know the most beautiful city in Central America. La Antigua owes its global renown to the many colonial haciendas, elegant palaces, colourful churches and the sublime location between three smoking volcanoes. In the afternoon, you’ll hike into the authentic Guatemalan countryside, where you’ll pick coffee beans and cook tortillas. After a panoramic dinner accompanied by a Latin jazz orchestra, you’ll have a wide range of activities to choose from the following day. Golfing, a beneficent spa treatment or casting a line into one of the best fishing spots in the world are just some of the possibilities. And as icing on the cake, you can pamper your guests with a VIP dinner in one of La Antigua’s monuments.
On day 4, you’ll board a luxurious bus to ride along Chichicastenango’s lively market to the delightful Lake Atitlán. Swing through the treetops during a canopy tour and enjoy the majestic panoramic view out over the lake. That evening’s décor, as you dine aboard a boat between the volcano heads, will also definitely stick with you.
The next day takes you on a guided tour lead by our Mayan specialist, visiting the artists’ Mecca, hitching a ride in the back of a pick-up truck to fall under the spell of the Mayan god, Mam Maximón, in a private ceremony lead by a local shaman. Then it’s time for the climax of this unforgettable journey. You’ll take a small-group helicopter ride over the jungle to Flores, where you’ll get behind the wheel of a 4×4 to drive out to the Yaxhá archaeological site.
On the last day, you’ll behold – as you listen to your guide’s expert account – the steep Tik’al pyramids, which are, without a doubt, the most beautiful Mayan archaeological sites.
