ACTIVE EXPLORATION OF THE NORWEGIAN FJORDS...
Fjords, ice blue glaciers and rugged mountains which stretch out into an infinite sea: the Norwegian city of Bergen is the gateway and your base for an active exploration of the fjords.
Some cities really live up to their name. Your elegant residence, First Hotel Marin, is situated in Bergen’s UNESCO protected old town, but through the large windows you have a far-reaching view of the fjord and the seven mountains surrounding the city. A couple of streets and several stately houses further lies the fish market, where you can partake of a fish and seafood tasting session, while fishermen loudly extol the virtues of their goods. In the evening while you are sampling the hotel’s Mediterranean inspired cuisine your taste buds are once again indulged.
The following day you will travel along the steepest railway of Northern Europe towards Berekvam Station for a death-defying mountain bike ride. At the end of your bike ride, where a new breathtaking panorama awaits you around each corner, you enter the picturesque village of Flåm for a safari along the fjords. In Bergen’s former power station the fresh and creative cuisine served up at the Bølgen & Moi restaurant will help replenish your energy levels.
The outing on the last day is not for the faint-hearted either: following in the steps of South Pole adventurer Roald Armundsen you and your travel companions explore the unparalleled glaciers of the Hardangervidda mountain plateau with the aid of crampons. While the incredible snowy landscape is imprinted on your memory, the chef of the 17th Century Bryggen Tracteursted restaurant serves you up a traditional Norwegian dinner, with a modern sauce.
